The BCHA’s annual Pioneer Day is a half-day field trip for Berrien County’s 3rd and 4th graders. Open to public, private, and parochial schools, students experience hands-on activities that give them a glimpse into the life of Michigan’s pioneers. Home school families interested in attending should contact Pioneer Day Coordinator, Tara Velez at email@example.com to learn about logistics unique to your situation.
The event is held the second Thursday in May and teachers are notified in February via mail. These packets include information sheets for parents, field trip permission forms, the sign up form, and a list of standards for that year’s activity schedule. To learn more about our event, please review last year’s Pioneer Day Teacher Letter.
Pioneer Day 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19. Please add our 2021 date, May 13th, to your calendars now!
Volunteer opportunities abound for Pioneer Day for the public, including as a group host or demonstration leader. If you are a traditional artisan or pioneer historian interested in being part of our activities, please contact us!
